Double-Breasted Wool Sweater
Vince
Sold by: Saks Fifth Avenue
Fit Guide
This Vince wool sweater does it all. From a sartorial perspective, the shawl collar, double-breasted closure, and new take on an elbow patch are so cool and modern-looking. From a purely functional point of view, this sweater offers so much versatility. The styling and weight make it an ideal blazer replacement – perfect with wool trousers for the office or an evening out. Wearing it unbuttoned with jeans or khaki’s create an equally stylish, yet casual, look. While Vince is a contemporary line, the fit is for everyone.

Gents, today is officially the first day of fall. And that means one thing: sweaters. No? OK, it could mean a few other things…football, getting in those final rounds of golf, shorter days (or daylight, anyway), maybe you’re finally going to get to some of those home improvements you keep saying you’re going to do. Whatever you’re doing, the weather is getting chillier and you need something to wear. Which brings us back to sweaters. Whether you layer one over a dress shirt and tie for work, pair one with a cool sport shirt for a night out, or pull out a soft and cozy one to wear with your favorite jeans, sweaters are a staple in our wardrobes. This season, knitwear is more important than ever, so it’s a great time to invest because there are options for everyone and every aspect of our lives. Shall we get started?
We’re showing you just a few of our favorites here. Head over to Fashion Finds, to see more of our top picks, broken down for work, after 5, and casual dressing.

A wonderful sweater to wear with jeans, this merino wool crewneck from Woolrich John Rich & Bros. has a contract ribbed neck trim with a slight roll that creates just the right amount of interest. The heathered navy color compliments your dark washed jeans, which creates a great monochromatic look. If you’re not familiar with the brand, this is a line from Woolrich – the company known for their quality clothing inspired by the outdoors, since 1830. This line interprets their core timeless sensibility with an urban, modern twist. The fit is trim for a contemporary look. Add a chukka boot, white, grey or black sneaker, or chunky oxford style shoe to complete the look.

Given the cold weather in much of the country last winter, chunky sweaters have taken on added fashion importance. This Billy Reid option is 100% alpaca, which is such a luxurious winter fabric. Think of it as a warmer, smoother version of wool. The poppy red color goes back to blue wash, dark grey and black jeans or deep khaki pants. The self-ribbed shoulder and sleeve treatment add a subtle athletic touch. Wear it with just a long sleeve t-shirt, a solid chambray shirt or plaid button up shirt. This is one ruggedly cool sweater.

The sophisticated grid pattern and so soft suede elbow patches on this luxury wool sweater from Canali make this a standout piece of the season. It can go to the office, a restaurant or dressy casual party. It looks great with a pair of grey wool dress pants and white shirt to play up the colors of the sweater. For a more casual approach, dark grey twill jeans are effortless.

This cotton cardigan from J.McLaughlin is just the right weight for the first days of fall when you are not yet ready for a wool sweater. Wear it as a jacket for warmth on a weekend afternoon with your jeans, and t-shirt. It’s just as amazing with any pattern button down shirt for the office.

This wool/cashmere pencil stripe sweater from Vince looks equally good as a stand-alone sweater or a layering piece under a blazer. The deep wine stripe is so good looking against the dark grey ground of this sweater. We like it with dark wash jeans or a flat front cotton pant. We recommend a solid washed grey or soft blue button up shirt underneath with dark wash jeans or flat fronts. Of course, a t-shirt beneath it (as shown) is just right for a casual feel.

Though most of us gents tend towards deeper neutral colors, its important to have some pops of color to go along with our khaki’s and jeans, too. And Polo Ralph Lauren is known for that just-right pop in their Shetland wool crewneck sweater. It is a preppy throwback that looks new. And the suede elbow patch makes it more than just a solid sweater. Though it comes in many colors, the blueprint heather is one of our favorites – looks great with any neutral color jeans or khakis. Wear it with a pattern flannel or white washed oxford cloth shirt.
