Last week, we talked about some common types of office holiday parties. And next week will be all about easy get-togethers with friends and family. This week? This week, we’re focusing on the one that, let’s face it, takes the most effort …the dressy party. This could be anything from a cocktail party to a sit-down dinner or an all-out formal affair, with dinner and dancing. Much like a wedding (and you may even be going to a wedding this season, so all the ideas we talk about here apply), this is an opportunity to show your best stuff…‘tis the season for a little extra pizzazz and holiday cheer for good measure. Of course, if your office is hosting it, it is still important to take your company culture in mind. A suit is generally the answer to all your needs. If the locale is more casual, a dapper sport coat and wool trousers can work, too. The way to get festive in your look – and why shouldn’t you – is in the materials and colors. This is the time to go with sleek wools that may even have a bit of sheen to them, and bolder colors in our ties – patterns and metallic look great. For the most formal of occasions, bust out a tuxedo. If not now, when?
