Fit Guide
New Year’s Eve is one of those nights when it’s totally appropriate to wear something a little more special, and this Hugo Boss black cotton sport coat is sure to get the year off to the right start. The contemporary fit and tonal geometric pattern with a satin shawl collar certainly works dressed up, with a tuxedo shirt and bow tie, as shown. We like it even better when it’s treated more casually, with dark jeans or a charcoal wool pair of pants and a crisp white shirt – no tie. It’s so smart looking. Either way, there is versatility to this piece, so you’ll be able to wear it for any festive occasion.

For most of us, we are all about the holidays right now – getting gifts, planning get-togethers and attending events. And then, before we know it, the Christmas music will cease (some of you may wish that happened already) and New Year’s Eve is upon us…and we haven’t given it much thought, let alone thought about what we’re going to where. So, with less than a month to go, let’s make sure you’ve got this checked off your list. New Year’s Eve is a time to have fun – not just actual fun, but fun with what we wear, too. Play with pattern. Try some unexpected color or sleek dark looks. And there are ways to do it, no matter your style.

New Year’s Eve is a night to dress up. While you might not need a tuxedo for your night out, there’s no reason you can’t still wear a tuxedo shirt. It looks downright dapper with so many more casual looks - jeans and a wool or velvet blazer, under a dressy black or charcoal cardigan, with a black suit (skip the tie), just a pair of dark wool dress pants. The trick is the covered placket, which allows you to wear it as a button up shirt. This is one of our favorite New Year’s Eve looks.

If the New Year’s Eve party is casual, maybe you’re hosting some friends at home, a fun shirt is still a must. Club Monaco’s navy polka dot corduroy shirt is great with dark jeans and has just the touch of festive pattern that works for the night. The contemporary fit works under a navy blazer, too.

If you are off to a casual party at a friend’s house, you’ll still want a put together look, so start with this classic fit, dark navy, ribbed cardigan from Toscano. The fashion world has fallen back in love with cardigans as a casual sport coat replacement, and we couldn’t agree more. Pair it with dark grey or khaki jeans (dark denim looks great, too) and a dressier pattern button up shirt. Add a seasonal tie to go that extra mile. It is New Year’s Eve, after all.

A black bow tie is a classic accessory with your New Year’s Eve tuxedo. Theory added a ribbed textured to this silk one, fulfilling our mission to always add a little modern flair to our look.

New Year’s Eve is a great time to jazz up a basic tuxedo. An ideal way to do that is by adding this black-and-white glen plaid cummerbund from Brooks Brothers. It comes with a matching bow tie, but we like to mix-and-match for a more festive, yet still polished look. Wear a solid black tie with this cummerbund. And then, for another event, switch it up by wearing the plaid tie with a solid black cummerbund (or no cummerbund at all). The beauty of the set is that you get two outfits out of it.

Cufflinks are required with most tuxedo shirts and French cuff shirts. This special set from David Yurman is made of black mother-of-pearl inlay. It is a simply elegant and very sophisticated polished finish that really stands up to a formal outfit and dresses up any look.
