Shawl collar cardigans continue as an important trend into the spring season, and we couldn’t be more pleased. Whether you have a generally more conservative style or like to play with some fashion, this silhouette is a crowd pleaser – especially this one from Vince. The cotton mélange (the mix of the black and white) fabric makes it an ideal spring layer, with jeans and a t-shirt or dressed up with a gingham button up shirt and twill flat front pants. (While it is shown with leather sweats, we know we aren’t all Kanye West, so we’ll skip those for now.) Vince’s subtle details, like the black elbow patches (check them out through the ‘shop it’ button) and contrast white stitching give the sweater a casual and current look that, like the modern fit, is universal and stylish for most gents. Sweaters are an absolute necessity during the long days of winter. And they are an absolute necessity for spring, too. Just in a different way. Instead of being the layer protecting us from catching cold (according to our mothers, anyway), it becomes the in-between essential. When you don’t need true outerwear, a zip-up or button front cardigan sweater is the perfect replacement. Want the finishing touch of a sport coat without the structure? Ditto. And, of course a lightweight pullover can look great over a button down for work or a t-shirt for a casual day hanging out. So, we’ve scoured the market for the best of the best this season – and boy, did we find some good ones.

When camouflage is done right, we are fans. Theory’s deep navy version is subtle and interesting, so it takes on a sophisticated look that is very urban – no animals will be hurt when you’re wearing this at the office or out to dinner with charcoal wool pants and a dark navy button up shirt. J.Crew’s classic crewneck is done in a super soft and lightweight merino wool that is an ideal layer for the office over a button up shirt with a pair of flat front twill pants on a spring day. It’s a great spring color that works with any of your office staples, and also looks sharp with dark wash jeans and a white t-shirt on a more casual day. It’s J. Finding ways to highlight a gent’s shoulders is always a masculine touch we like.
