If you are a regular reader, you know we are big fans of linen. (And if you’re not, welcome!) It is a wonderfully comfortable natural fabric in warm weather and it has a crisp, cool look – even with the wrinkles, which just add to its mystic so let them be. Every gent needs a proper pair in his wardrobe. Bensol’s flat front model, made in Italy, has a herringbone weave that makes the natural linen color a perfect option for the office or a summer evening night out. The fit is modern but far from skinny. Wear it with a linen solid or pattern button up shirt. Add a blue linen blazer for a complete polished look.

There are a couple things to know to make sure your pants aren’t looking dated. We can look at this like an inverted triangle. For the most part (the widest portion of the triangle), your closet should be filled with slimmer pants that have straight legs. We are not talking about skinny pants - that’s not our style - but pants have certainly gotten leaner. Your pants should skim your legs without having a lot of excess folding and drape. The good news is that it’s really flattering for gents of all shapes. If you’re long and lean, it’s a no-brainer. And if you’re not, this is the kind of fit that helps you look like you are. Tip, gents: excess fabric and an over-sized fit do not conceal anything – it’s only sloppy looking. Just like we are fans of good quality fabrics that will last, we are fans of the proper fit. (And having a tailor you can go to when needed, is must-have.) OK, so that makes up most of the triangle. And what’s in the pointy portion? Two things. 1. Pants with athletic inspiration. This is a trend that continues from fall. In spring and summer, it’s an ideal time to partake by having a great pair of casual pants that have that jogger feel…without the look of your high school sweats. 2. We’re going to confuse you now by saying that pants with pleats and a more fluid leg are starting to pop up in the fashion world again. If you are a gent who never gave up his pleats, well, you can finally get an update. For everyone else, this is high fashion and that’s how we’ll treat it – with a cool sartorial nod. No matter the shape, it’s time to put away the heavier wools of winter and focus on spring and summer fabrics. Lightweight wools for work, linen for a night out, or cotton for a casual weekend are necessities. We can play with a little color, too.
