Vince. One of our favorite brands (and by that we mean yours & ours), their site showcases the line, sometimes with exclusive styles and colors you can’t find anywhere else. The contemporary aesthetic is married with a coordinating fit that has sportier vibe that gents of every age and size look good in. The clothes can be worn to the office on a casual day or any day in a creative environment, and are simply great for a night out and any work-free day. This 100% linen sweater, made in Italy, is a perfect example of this. Pair it with white or tan linen pants for a casual workday, dark jeans for dinner, and shorts for an easy afternoon. While the line is not inexpensive, the quality is there and the pieces really do last for years – both in the quality and the styling that is modern and timeless at the same time. As we approach our one-year anniversary of the New Mark Shale, we wanted to take a moment to talk about the very thing that brings us all together…our favorite websites to “shop” for you and with you.
While we always try to pick products with photography that truly reflects the product, we know looking at these pictures can often feel uncertain – how will it look on me? What other ways can I wear the product? Models are often young, tall, and thin – and styled in a very specific way. But that doesn’t mean those are the only people the product will look amazing on. And, that’s what we’re here for – to interpret those pictures with tips about fit, and how to wear each of the pieces in our notes with each product.
And what about the sites (or stores) we are directing you to? We know this may be the biggest change for some of our friends. While we used to have our own stores and carry our own inventory, you will now be directed to other trusted retailers when you click on the ‘shop it’ button under each featured product on our site. And “trusted” is the key here. We won’t send you to sites we don’t think live up to our customer service standards. We are highlighting some of our favorite and most popular partners this week. And in general, we will always send you to sites with customer-friendly (often free!) shipping and return policies – many of the sites will include free or pre-paid return labels. We also try to sprinkle in some new sites and brands you may not yet know that we think you will love.

Nordstrom. They are known for their wide assortment of clothing and accessories for gents that like styles from contemporary to modern to an easy, gentleman's fit – they cover it all, John Varvatos to Canali to Tommy Bahama. They have a huge selection of suits and sport coats, and this one is a perfect example of a luxury suit with a modern fit. Canali’s Italian quality and fit are impeccable. You will notice the difference. And with the big perk of being able to take online purchases in to your local store (there are 271 locations across the US) for alterations, many of which will be free, it’s a great site to find a suit. In addition to the wide clothing and accessories assortment, Nordstrom offers free shipping & returns (using the label they provide) all the time. With online shopping, we know that returns are bound to happen, and we want you to have the flexibility to try on multiple sizes to see what works best for you – in the comfort of your own home, with your own clothes and shoes to try on with your new pieces…and when you have the time to do so. Neiman Marcus. The refined assortment includes more than gents sometimes realize. Sure, they carry a fine assortment of truly designer fashions, but they also have a dapper assortment of modern and contemporary fits (from the likes of Robert Graham and Joe’s Jeans) for us to edit from. We’re featuring one of our current Robert Graham favorites here, with its iconic contrast under collar and cuff trim. Neimans also has great dressier accessories from David Donahue and Alexander Olch for after 5 and work. They offer free shipping all the time & free returns within 15 days by using their pre-paid USPS label, but returns can be made any time with just a $9.95 deduction by still using their label. They are very fair about price adjustments, as well.

J.Crew. While they have been getting some backlash in the news and social media laterly, there is still A LOT of solid options at J.Crew - you just need to know what to pick (and that's what we're here for). The modern fit and timeless style is a great mix of good quality and better prices. We love things like their button up shirts and some of their sport coats and suits are really nice alternatives. The casual pieces, like tees and shorts won’t break the bank, and they’re a great fit for any age. They’ve even started carrying some lines besides their own, to round out their ever-evolving assortment. We love their partnership with Thomas Mason, one of the world’s finest fabric mills, to create shirts like the one here. The quality of the cotton results in a silk-like feel and in a style that you will wear for many years. It doesn’t hurt that they often have discounts going on, offer free shipping over $150 all the time, and returns are easy as can be – bring them to a store for free or use their return label (good for UPS or USPS) for $5 within 60 days of purchase, which is very reasonable.

Zappos. Many gents know about Zappos for their seemingly endless footwear options. And we love digging through it to find you some of the best picks, from dressy to casual. These Cole Haan perforated wing tips will easily take you to you work and any dressy function you’ll be attending. But Zappos is much more than that. Though the photography doesn’t always look as high-end as some other sites we love, it is absolutely functional with our tips. And Zappos carries a truly fine assortment of clothing and accessories that we tap in to with gusto – like polos from Lacoste, well made t-shirts and jeans from Agave, and belts from Trafalgar that will last forever. Of course, they are known for service, which is what seals the deal. Products are delivered super-fast, and for free. East Dane. One of the best – and varied - contemporary assortments out there, hands down. It can be overwhelming, but that’s what we’re here for. They carry newer lines not easily found in department stores that we love to introduce you to, as well as some of our longtime favorites - like JBrand and Rag & Bone. For a contemporary take on jeans, they are an ideal resource – these AG jeans shown are made from an upscale Japanese selvedge denim, but in a sand color that is so current and still easy to wear. In general, the photography can sometimes reflect an edgier way to wear the clothes, so be sure to check our tips in the coordinating copy about how most gents would wear the pieces. Hugo Boss. When we are looking for a sleek suit, we are going to work with Hugo Boss. With a contemporary fit that still works for most gents wanting a modern look with timeless appeal, Hugo Boss does work wear for all ages and personalities. Whether you’re looking for a suit for the office or an evening event, they’ve got options we love. We generally focus on the BOSS line, but they also have the HUGO line, which is truly contemporary and a bit more fashion-forward that we cull from on occasion. But they don’t just do suits and suit accessories. They have a great sport line (BOSS Green) that we love for a stylish golf game, and as well as pants, sport shirts and sweaters for more casual events in BOSS and HUGO that have a sartorial sense that is just right. These cotton flat fronts have a very subtle grey houndstooth pattern that is perfect for both the office and an evening out. They offer free shipping and returns within 30 days, using the prepaid UPS label they provide – all the makings for an easy shopping experience for a busy gent.

Brooks Brothers. They are known for their classic looks and gentleman’s fit, but they’ve evolved to so much more than that. Their expanded fits of suits and dress shirts have made Brooks Brothers an option for every gent looking for a classic aesthetic that never goes out of style. There are a few basic suit/blazer models, and we generally focus on the Milano (most contemporary and slim), Fitzgerald (modern fit), and the Regent (a bit more relaxed than Fitzgerald), which all have a more updated fit than their Madison which is their more relaxed, traditional gentleman’s fit. This classic Summer sport coat in seersucker, so Brooks Brothers, looks modern and updated when they do it in their Fitzgerald model. And they will do free waist and hem alterations on the pants with just a few easy bits of information you fill right in on the site. They also have well-made sweaters, jackets, shirts, and ties/bowties that we cull from to round out our picks that can be worn with other brands, as well. While shipping is not always free (it often is, though), they do provide a USPS label for free returns within 90 days, so you can really take your time to be sure you love it – which we know you will. You can even return your online purchases to your local store, so you can bring back any additional sizes you purchased when you bring in any, more detailed alterations, you may need on the pieces you keep.

Bonobos. This newer line is starting to really expand, and we’ve been big fans from the beginning, when they only offered their goods through their website. They still have a unique business model, with their “store” locations being just a place to try-on clothes to keep their core a virtual shopping experience. And, of course, we love that. But what we really love is the clothes. The line started out with a focus on pants, and they nailed the fit so well, they successfully branched out into a full assortment of men’s pieces. Many of the pants come in 3-4 different fits: Tailored (the trimmest, contemporary fit), Straight (a modern “everyman” fit that is still updated and current), and Slim (which is in between the two). The Boot is their most relaxed fit. Besides choosing your waist size, you can also choose an inseam length that is right for you. They offer cotton pants, like the washed cotton twill in a perfect Summer blue that we’re showing here, in some great styles and high-quality looking denim washes that we are fans of. Their shirts run in a similar fashion from Tailored to Standard, and we find fabrics that are a really nice quality in very current colors and prints that are a great way to round out your wardrobe. Besides free shipping, they offer a pre-paid UPS label for returns for 90 days. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the time.
