Fit Guide
The Essential T-shirt. Of course, you need a great t-shirt (more than one, really) to take on vacation. It’s that staple that’s going to go with shorts, pants, swim trunks, and be that layer under a sweater or jacket, too. So, it needs to look modern and polished. Quality and fit are key to prevent a t-shirt from looking sloppy. Agave has one of our favorites, in a soft and high-quality Supima cotton - this long staple cotton fiber makes it extremely comfortable and durable. The enzyme wash gives it a broken-in finish that is perfect for vacation. It comes in a few key neutrals, and we suggest starting with the navy shown here. Father’s Day has past, so the next thing to look forward to is that summer vacation you probably have planned. Unlike Spring Break, this trip can be a big one for many of us. There is a (at least slightly) more laid-back vibe at work, and if you have kids, they are out of school - and may be with you or at sleep away camp. So it’s the perfect time to really get away and have an adventure. According to U.S. News some of the best summer vacation spots are places like Paris and Nice, London, Mykonos, Barcelona, Montreal, Amsterdam, and Chicago (our hometown, so we’re not surprised to see it on the list). So whether you are heading overseas or staying in the US to explore a new city like New York, San Francisco or Seattle, there will be a lot of sightseeing and more varied activities than just hanging out on the beach. And that means one important thing to prep for it: efficient packing. Whether you are going to be really ambitious and shoot for just a carry-on (that’s 22”) or not, packing some key staple pieces that can be worn for different activities by mixing & matching will ensure there is enough room in your bag for your chargers, itineraries and all the other must-haves (including some space for the inevitable vacation shopping or the run-over from your Significant Other or kids). A couple little packing tips we always like to share:
1. Fold and then roll your clothes. It actually helps reduce wrinkles.
2. Pack small things like socks or belts into your shoes – it saves space and helps your shoes stay shaped.
3. Keep a travel umbrella in a pocket of your carry-on bag…you never know.
4. This isn’t a common tip, but if you are checking your bag, we suggest packing a spare set of undergarments in your carry-on. Let’s hope your luggage doesn’t get lost, but if it does, you’ll be happy you did.

The Always Useful Light Layer. A beige sweater is going to get a lot of use on your trip, whether you wear it to dress up your look for dinner or throw it on in a chilly museum during the day. And, of course, the plane can get cold, so wear it instead of packing it – that will save you some space, too. The Go-to Jeans. On your travel day, switch out your traditional denim for a pair of super soft brushed twill jeans. They are just as comfortable, if not more so, and they will be a great alternative to your basic denim jeans that you’ve packed away for your trip. This medium shale grey is an ideal neutral – it goes with everything you see here, and will work with any color or pattern that you’ll be packing. Plus, they can have a dressier feel than basic denim. The Other Shoes. You know the shoes we mean – the ones you’re going to wear when you go out to dinner, and whenever you’re dressing up a bit on your trip. You can’t wear sneakers or flip flops with everything, so we suggest wearing your dapper shoes on the plane to save suitcase space, since those other options are generally lighter and easier to pack. This plain toe oxford from Lloyd, a 125-year old shoemaker from Germany, comes in a perfect shade of deeper brown that goes with everything and has light accents that give them a less serious feel. The full grain leather upper gives these shoes a dressier look for those nicer restaurants, while the rubber sole provides comfort and practicality for your trip.
