Silver Fox Fur-Trimmed Wool-Blend Down Parka
Michael Kors
Sold by: Saks Fifth Avenue
Fit Guide
1. The Coat or Jacket. A great winter coat is always essential, but this season, it’s a true fashion statement, well beyond function. This quilted parka from Michael Kors is one of our favorite coats of the season. It’s a true luxury investment that will withstand brutal Winters for years to come, with its goose down fill for warmth and dapper wool/cashmere outer – this is clearly no ordinary puffer. The hood’s natural silver fox fur trim is removable for rainy days, and the versatile style is long enough to even wear over a sport coat or suit. Whether you’re going out to walk the dog, warm up the car to the head in to the office, or walk to the train or bus, there’s no denying it’s getting colder out there. With Halloween fresh in our minds, we can’t help but think about all those childhood Halloweens when our parents made us cover up our awesome costumes with coats, scarves, hats and gloves…which we, of course, promptly hid in the mailbox so as not to ruin our chances for candy. We’re all a little bit wiser now, aren’t we? Instead of fighting it, let’s just make sure you look good embracing it – and stay warm at the same time. A dapper coat, a soft scarf, a hat that doesn’t look silly, functional gloves, and warm boots…that’s what we’re talking about this week.
Take a look at our overview here, and then head over to Fashion Finds, to see our top picks for each category in the “Gents’ Top 20 Cold Weather Necessities”. 2. The Scarf. Just like your tie is the finishing touch to your suit, your scarf will give your outerwear the right pop of style – oh, and it’ll keep your warm. Cozy wools and pillowy soft cashmeres in masculine patterns and colors add the right sartorial note. And this super soft 100% wool one from Canali is a perfect example. Made in Italy, the navy and grey diamond pattern is a sophisticated way to liven up any solid navy or charcoal top coat, and still looks with a more casual coat, too (like a pea coat or puffer). 3. The Hat. Grandma always said that all the heat escapes through our heads and we’re not going to disagree, especially if we have less hair than we used to. Make sure you are covered for both your overcoats and your weekend jackets. Fedoras to knit wool caps, this season is filled with options. This Obey red and blue tweed is a great pick for your casual coats. The price can’t be beat and the color combination is spot-on for the season. It’s also available in a neutral black/cream combination through the ‘shop it’ button. See the rest of our picks in this week’s Fashion Finds.

4. The Gloves. From soft cashmere-lined leather gloves, to wools and versions with touch screen technology, there are a lot of smart ways to keep our hands warm and still functional. For a true classic, Portolano gloves will never disappoint. They started producing gloves in Naples, Italy in 1895 and specialize in leather, cashmere-lined gloves like this one. They are incredibly soft with beautiful stitch detail that stand up to any dress coat. See the rest of our picks in this week’s Fashion Finds.

5. The Boots. Even if loafers, oxfords, or sneakers are your typical go-to, when the slushy puddles, slippery ice, and piles of snow start to accumulate, a pair of boots is going to become your best friend. Whether you need something dressy or sporty (or both), traction, warmth, and dry feet are the name of the game. For the ultimate in protection, these UGGs are waterproof and lined to keep your feet warm down to -4 degrees Fahrenheit. The lug sole will keep you from slipping and sliding. And unlike some boots, the lace-up styling makes them easy to wear with jeans or any casual pants. We’re featuring the black, but there are several neutrals to choose from through the ‘shop it’ button. See the rest of our picks in this week’s Fashion Finds.
