Fit Guide
Theory is known for it’s minimal and clean aesthetic. So, it’s no surprise that they have a slimmer wool dress pant that we think is great. The fit is contemporary but we’ve found it works for most of us around the office. It’s got some lycra to it, making them that much more comfortable for a long day at the office. The charcoal grey color is a perfect neutral for most sport coats, and an incredibly versatile option. Of course, the black is a classic, too.

We’ve all noticed, over the last few years, that men’s trousers have been taking on a slimmer cut. This is no longer a trend – it’s an update that is comfortably settling into our closets. And, as the fit of our pants have gotten trimmer, you may be asking yourself if you should really partake in this. What is slim vs. what just looks tight? There’s a difference, and as long as you stay in the former camp, these pants are sophisticated and updated. Ensuring you’re wearing nice quality fabrics play an important role too, as it will allow your pants to skim (not cling). We often think we need to camouflage ourselves with a lot of fabric when we’ve been enjoying more beer and barbecue than maybe we should. But in reality, it will have the opposite effect. If you are not tall and lean, don’t opt out just yet. A more tapered leg creates a slimming and flattering effect that will make you LOOK taller and leaner.
Take a look and then head over to Fashion Finds, to see the best options for work (updated Tuesdays), after 5 (updated Wednesdays), and casual days (updated Thursdays).

From one of our favorite pant makers, Zanella, these all wool, lined pants sport a modern silhouette that works for most men’s body types. The interesting medium blue/tan shade pairs perfectly with a small check or plaid shirt for a sophisticated workday look. If you don’t own any Zanella pants yet, you will surely love the quality and have them for years.

From AG Jeans, these seriously soft Italian cotton 5-pocket pants have a leg that tapers from the knee to the hem for a clean, modern look that is not too fitted. And while the fit is contemporary, it’s not too skinny, which we like. We want to update our pants, without trying to be trendy, which is exactly what these do. The dark khaki shade makes this a great substitute for your flat front twill pants.

Vince offers an awesome shade of medium brown that make these twill trousers an easy addition to your office or evening wardrobe. And, of course, they offer the same great contemporary fit that Vince is known for (really universal for shorter and taller gents) with an updated, slightly slimmer leg. While these pants look great with Vince shirt Neiman Marcus shows, we also like this blue option. It works great with any shirts grounded in tan, too.

These dark wash jeans from AG Jeans sport a contemporary fit and narrow leg that is slimmer, but certainly not extreme in look or feel. The darker color and trimmer fit make them an ideal option for a night out on the town (whatever that might be for you) that will work with anything: a sport shirt (jacket optional), sweater, or t-shirt.

A narrower leg is not just for pants. Shorts take on a modern, clean look with a trimmer leg, too. Take a look at these cotton chambray shorts from J. Crew. We really like the way the chambray fabric dresses them up, making them an easy choice for any end-of-the-summer parties – even when you are wearing them casually with a t-shirt or polo.

Sometimes your basic fleece sweat pants are just too casual – really, unless you’re just hanging out at home, they are generally always too casual. So, let’s look at one of our favorite “non-sweatpant” versions from J. Crew. Done in a cotton twill, with a trimmed down leg, the narrower silhouette and woven fabric take them up a notch, but give you the same comfort of your favorite sweats. Wear them with a polo or t-shirt, and easy sweater or button-down once it gets cooler. As we head in to fall, the neutral black and grey are great options.
