Ladies’ 20-piece Spring Break Travel Checklist

2. The Perfect Tee. Everything about this tee is vacation right – and will get endless use all season long. This Wilt tee has an easy fit with a bit of an a-line shape to the body that is a little longer in the back. That slight ease in the middle is key to a great fit for ladies. The slub fabric is so soft and perfectly broken-in looking. We love this pale blush color – it’s this season’s neutral, so you’ll be able to wear it with any bottoms you packed, but has a little more interest than simple white. If you prefer more of a sleeve, Scoop’s ¾ sleeve tee is wonderfully soft and flattering.

3. The Essential Tank. If you are a fan of J.Crew’s linen and vintage cotton tops, you are going to love the new speckled cotton collection as much as we do. This tank is a real winner, flattering all figures in XXXS-XL, with its modern and slightly loose fit and simply awesome texture. The speckled blue we’re featuring reads like denim and goes with everything, including jeans and navy, since it’s heathered (the color is mixed with white) and has that subtly nubby finish – casually ideal. It is substantial enough to look great on its own, but still layers wonderfully.

4. The Universal Shorts. Ladies, Bermuda shorts are back – and we are fans. Whether you have the legs for something shorter, or feel more comfortable with a longer inseam, these Vince shorts are amazing. They have some stretch to them so they don’t look matronly – they skim the leg, and in Vince’s easy contemporary fit, they are so flattering. They elongate and slim. This khaki is a great vacation staple, since it goes with everything, but there are other pretty options, like a pale blue haze, through the ‘shop it’ button. The longer style can be dressed up for a casual dinner by adding your wedge sandals and a flowy blouse and necklace. Pair them with your flips flops and tank top for a day of tooling around town.

5. The Relaxed Pants. When you’re on vacation, comfort is key – and so is looking good. Not only is the waistband of these J.Crew pants stylishly cute and comfortable, it actually sucks you in a little with the wide band hitting at just the right spot below your belly button – perfect for vacation eating and drinking. They come in an equally neutral brown, and this grey/navy combination will go with all the picks we’re showing you today. J.Crew’s modern fit, in 000-16, make these pants an ideal for everyone. We love wearing them cuffed up, as shown, and they work with flip flops and flat sandals, as effortlessly as a heel. We suggest doing a casual half-tuck with your tee, tank, or blouse to show some of the contrasting waistband.

6. The Beachy Blouse. Joie describes this blouse as “boho chic”, and we agree – making it a top pick for vacation (and spring, in general). This color combination looks great with denim, white, navy, and khaki. The simple elastic details at the neckline and sleeve give shape to the easy, modern fit, and we just love the added tassel detail on the neck ties. The cotton has a subtle, beachy lightweight feel and texture. The Vince sweater we featured in Clothes & Conversation layers over this top with ease, if needed, and the statement necklace we’re featuring pairs effortlessly with this neckline.

7. The Flowing Maxi Skirt. A long skirt in an easy, stretchy jersey is a must-have for vacation. Helmut Lang, known for their effortlessly flattering use of ruching, to conceal and accentuate just the right parts, has our top pick. The wide waistband isn’t tight at all, but will help smooth any belly bulges. And the ruching? Of course, it’s perfectly placed creating an hourglass shape. The contemporary style has a slit up the middle of the front draping. There is an attached miniskirt underneath that helps smooth,  and is really only revealed in a serious breeze. The navy is just right for a beach vacation, but black is just as versatile. Like everything we’re showing today, it mixes and matches with the tops we’re showing and can be dressed up and down with ease.

8. The Easy Jeans. In Clothes & Conversation, we suggested wearing your slouchy jeans on the plane. And we like having a slim pair of white jeans, too. They have more of a polished feel and are so appropriate for the warm weather. You won’t go wrong with these Joe’s jeans from their Spotless collection. They are treated so coffee and wine (staples of any good vacation for many of us), will literally bead up and can be wiped off. They are super soft with great stretch, so you’ll look polished and pristine, even if you don’t have to act that way. The cuff adds a relaxed finish that works with flat and heeled shoe options, alike. They are Joe’s typically easy, contemporary fit. For a bit more a relaxed fit, Eileen Fisher’s version has the benefit of equally soft, organic cotton that also has just the right amount of stretch.

9. The Light Layer. In Clothes & Conversation, we featured a button front cardigan with a hint of metallic thread that can take you from the plane to dinner at the hotel’s outdoor restaurant. This open stitch easy cardigan is just as versatile, and ideal for an early morning stroll or while watching the sunset on the beach. The pale pink color, open stitch, and loose fit can be thrown on over anything, and in XS – XL, the easy fit looks great on everyone. It’s so soft and cozy, which is no surprise. Velvet always knows their way around a timeless knit, and this is no exception.

10. The Necessary Cover-Up. If we weren’t yearning for warm weather before, this Tory Burch tunic has us begging for a place to wear it. It’s made out of lightweight terry, so it’s ideal to throw on after frolicking in the water. It’s incredibly soft and so much cuter than a towel. The zipper neckline and pockets add function, while the style and fit is just amazing. It’s a classic that you will reach for year after year. It’s not this short on most women, so you’ll be comfortable walking around the pool and the beachside bar with this on (and you can wear it with your Bermuda shorts or slim white jeans, too). For something gauzier and less substantial, you’ll love the print – and price – of this Madewell cover-up.

11. Yes, The Workout Gear. Outdoor Voices won us over when we initially found them when looking for some mens product. They have a tight assortment of well-made active wear that isn’t flashy, but is stylish, modern, and has a really nice fit. And J. Crew agrees, adding these running sweats to their online assortment. This style is one of our favorites for a couple of reasons. 1. We love their versatility, especially for a trip. The style can be worn for an early morning walk or hike, a yoga class, or a good ‘ole sweat on the treadmill. And, hey, if you never make it to any of those things, since this style has an easier fit than typical workout leggings, they are super comfortable for sitting on your balcony with a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine after a day at the beach. 2. The fabric is really soft and comfortable, but still has all the technical elements you need to wick moisture.

12. The Versatile Scarf. While we’ve been featuring a lot of blues, blushy nudes, and metallic – since they all work together and with other colors making packing a breeze – this Antik Batik scarf is just the right pop of color. We’re obsessed with the over-sized shape and tropical colored tasseled edges. It is large enough to wrap around your shoulders in the evening and even around your waist with your bathing suit.

13. The Statement Necklace. Sure, you may be taking some of your better jewelry with you. But sometimes we just want something fun – and we don’t want to have to worry about storing it in the safe. This long J.Crew necklace has the beachy vibe down. We’ve tested the length on petite women, as well as women with larger chests. And really, it looks great on everyone. (Click through the 'shop it' button to get a better sense of the length.) Fringe accents are popping up everywhere this season, and this interpretation doesn’t feel overly trendy. It looks great with most necklines, and we especially love it with v-necks, button-downs, and split necks. Add it to any of your tees and tanks, or those easy summer dresses.

14. The Beach Bag. Black-and-cream or navy-and-cream (shown), you won’t go wrong with this soft and roomy Splendid tote. Like the style we featured in Clothes & Conversation this week, it’s large enough to act as a carry-on on your beach bag. With a zip top, your stuff – like technology, wires, sunglasses, and sunscreen - will be safe. But it’s still plenty big to store those extra t-shirts and layers for later in the day. The woven striped fabric is stylish, and durable, and will pair with solids and patterns in your wardrobe effortlessly – don’t be afraid to wear this if you are wearing a pretty floral or a fun plaid. We love mixing pattern, and this is an easy way to do it.

15. The “Little” Bag. When traveling for a beach vacation, it’s hard to pack another bag to use when you’re not toting towels and sunblock – they can be bulky and take up much needed space. This straw J. Crew clutch still offers a lot of space, but won’t take up any extra room in your bag, and here’s why. It’s slim to fit into your beach bag/carry-on, so you can use it to store electronic wires or other small things you would otherwise lose track of during travel. When you get to your destination, just dump it out – and your over-sized clutch is ready for fun. The natural straw is white-washed, with some gold elements, so it’s has a soft look and versatility to wear it when you dress up or down.

16. The Pretty Flip Flops. Flip flops don’t need to be rubber and they don’t need to be boring. They do need to be comfortable to throw on as you head to the beach or grab some coffee. And these DVF leather ones, with a cork mini-platform ensure they are also stylish. The leather footbed that rests on the cork is padded and soft, while the rubber bottom gives the toe ring style durability and traction to make walking in them easy. The gold is our top pick – we just love how gold pops with a bit of a tan and with all the colors we’re talking about today, but the silver and bronze are just as versatile.

17. The Practical Sandals. Sometimes you need something a little more substantial than a simple slip-on sandal – you may be doing some bike riding or a day of really walking around town. These Matiko sandals are the perfect thing – still light and pretty-looking with just a simple t-strap, but the buckle closure will keep them firmly on your feet. The sole even has a rubber patch to prevent slipping. The nude color goes with everything, so you’ll get plenty of use out them all summer long. They look great with shorts, jeans, and skirts alike.

18. The Wedge. You didn’t think we were going to tell you to go on a vacation with only flats, did you? A summer ready wedge is our last pick. They are not only stylish, playing in to the whole ‘70’s comeback, they are extremely comfortable. The crisscross straps holds your foot in place nicely, and the wedge gives you a lot of surface area to walk on, while Cole Haan’s Grand.OS technology makes them incredibly lightweight, and cushioned. The neutral pale color is flattering, elongating the leg and completely versatile. So, at least you won’t need to pack THAT many pairs of shoes.

19. The Sunglasses. Round sunglasses are making their comeback, but larger frames are still strong. These Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses combine the two for a very flattering pair of sunglasses. Click through the ‘shop it’ button to see them on the model – they’re a very versatile shape that looks good on a lot of different face sizes and shapes. Fashionable, but not too trendy, we’ve found to be quite durable, too. And a pretty good price for designer sunglasses, so you’ll feel comfortable taking them on vacation and hopefully, not losing them. Nordstrom offers this style in a neutral tortoise, as well.

20. The Wrinkle Reducer. We love a good makeup deal, especially for things like waterproof mascara, but when it comes to sun protection, we don’t like to mess around. This Shiseido sunscreen is consistently ranked as some of the best, and we like that it is durable enough to use on your body, but gentle enough to use on your face – so you don’t need to pack multiple lotions. It has 50+ SPF and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes - plus, it feels great on. Many of us use this year-round, and daily under makeup. Don’t skimp, your skin is worth it.
