Theory - Dreamerly Pullover
X
A sweatshirt style doesn’t have to be sloppy, as proven by this felted wool version from Theory. It’s basically a comfy, well-made sweater styled like a favorite sweatshirt. This gives us a lot of versatility, since it will work with jeans, black ponte pants, or drapey pull-on pants for an easy weekend look.

Weekend Max Mara has really outdone themselves this season, finding the most sophisticated – yet easy – ways to do plaid that feel mature and stylish. They do have a European fit, but this sweater is a relaxed shape that goes up to size XL, so it will work on most everyone. We have yet to find a more perfect weekend sweater to pair with your favorite jeans. This will look amazing with a pair of preppy oxfords or your favorite brown boots.

It can be worn as shown, open with a white tee and relaxed jeans, just as easily as it can be dressed up a bit by closing it and adding a slim belt with skinny jeans or pants. Sizes are going fast, so try Equipment’s site if Shopbop is out.

Madewell - Plaid Boyshirt
X
When we’re taking on the wide range of plaid shirts out there, it can be overwhelming. We’ve mentioned a couple already this week, and here we’re breaking down our top casual plaid shirt picks. This one, from Madewell, is a winner because they found a way to use a lot of color in a cool, retro vibe that works easily with any shade of blue denim and a great pair of brown boots. It comes in a large range of sizes too, to accommodate most body types.

RAILS - Carmen Button Down Shirt
X
Next on our hits list, this one is from RAILS. They are known for their plaids, and when you click through, you’ll see some more great color options. What we love about their shirts, besides the great colors they use, is the fabric. RAILS uses a rayon that has a really nice weight to it. It is seriously soft, and provides the perfect drape and slouch, taking a basic plaid shirt up a notch or two. The contemporary fit keeps it looking tailored, yet easy.

The Kooples - Plaid Print Cotton & Silk Shirt
X
Sometimes a red plaid shirt can feel a little lumberjack (though, we kinda love that). But this one from The Kooples is just right, using deep red and a lot of black, in a semi-sheer fabric that gives it a lot of femininity and a very sophisticated way to do a casual plaid shirt that you will wear way past this season.

Joe's Jeans - Plaid Skinny Jeans
X
There are a lot of plaid jeans out there this season, and this is one of the best for 2 reasons. 1. The color. The deep red and black plaid is super flattering, in that it’s not loud or full of contrasting color. It’s subtle, but still has a little spunk, much like The Kooples shirt we are showing here, too. 2. They’re from Joe’s Jeans, which has an easier contemporary fit that works on so many women. The rise isn’t too low, they are a very stretchy corduroy, and will work with anything from a black blazer to a slouchy sweater and knee high flat boots.

Club Monaco - Sonja Reversible Poncho
X
Club Monaco has taken some of our favorite things and created this stylish poncho. It's cashmere, it's reversible, and it's in windowpane plaid! We can see ourselves walking down the street, fall leaves crinkling under our feet, pumpkin latte in hand. Can't you? The reversible option of cream ground or black ground (shown) is brilliant. If you're wearing black, you may want to play up the contrast by wearing the cream ground. Wearing a pair of distressed jeans and cream or grey sweater? The black will pop effortlessly.

Free People - Textured Plaid Maxi Coat
X
Once the weather cools down, can’t you just see yourself heading off to brunch in this plaid coat from Free People? The longer length is ideal – not just to keep you warm and look good, but it easily covers your “home clothes” if you are just running out to the grocery store. It’s got a zipper and button placket, hood, and belt for just a bit of feminine shape without being at all fitted. It feels very English and we love it.
