Happy autumn, ladies. Today is officially the first day of fall. And that means one thing: sweaters. OK, it means a few more things than that – pumpkin everything, leaves changing, football, and cozy fires in the fireplace. And what can you wear while partaking in all of these things? A fabulous sweater. This season, knitwear is more important than ever, so it’s a great time to invest because there are options for everyone and every aspect of our lives. From big chunky, oversized options to sleek, slim cashmeres in turtlenecks, crewnecks, cardigans, and dress silhouettes…oh, it’s too exciting. Let’s just get into the shopping!

Vince has done something that should have been done a long time ago – they created a hybrid of a true coat and a sweater. And it’s fabulous. There are 2 sets of snaps that allow the collar line to either create beautiful lapels (open) or a rounded collar (when snapped all the way up). (See how it looks closed on Vince’s website.) It is a beautiful neckline to add a scarf – no fighting with a traditional stand-up collar. The sweater knit runs inside the arms, as well as down the whole back, giving extra comfort to an already roomy fitting coat that is just the right weight for fall. For this time of year, a fingerless pair of gloves will work perfectly– they keep your hands warm, look amazing, and you can still use your phone. The grey is soft and polished looking, but you can never go wrong with black.

Not to be left out, DKNY has put a little bit of fun into their open drape cardigan with it’s dip dye coloring from grey to black (so slimming). The long length is very modern, and dresses up leggings (knit or leather) in a flash, especially with heeled booties to balance the length.

Vince, too, has a real beauty of a soft open cardigan, in the palest of greys that is so inviting. The rib stitching and easy fit are the perfect combination, but we really like how they’ve made the front a little longer than the back, giving it an easy open drape with a bit more structure in the back. It makes it less swingy and a little more tailored, so it works nicely with trousers for the office (though it is certainly jeans appropriate).

A cashmere open wrap sweater is a cold weather essential, especially in grey this season. Club Monaco’s version even has pockets with leather trim, giving it just a bit of edge that we really like. But it is still relaxed with a wider body, making it endlessly versatile. It looks great with ponte pants or skinny black jeans and a shell or tee, but you can also wear it over a slim sheath dress for a classic look. You can even dress it up with coated black jeans and boots for a night out. The neutral grey is timeless.

We’ve always been a fan of Joie’s beautiful blouses and knits, and this sweater is a true win. The turtleneck – so popular this season – is oversized, so it’s not too tight, and looks equally chic when you don’t fold it over and just let it naturally scrunch down. The tweed fabric is super soft and a nice mid-weight, which works perfectly with the relaxed style. This grey is so season-right, but it comes in camel tweed too, that is a true classic. Both look great with your favorite jeans or cords, but easily pair with a slim skirt and pumps or oxfords for a workday look.
