Fit Guide
1. Higher Rises. With the influence of the ‘70’s firmly implanted in the season, we are delighted to see the rise of our jeans creeping back up towards our actual waists. A mid-rise, sitting a bit below the belly button looks great on everyone. It still has that updated look of a higher rise, and is super forgiving. A truly high rise, sitting at the belly button, is so stylish, and can be amazingly flattering, too – it’s just important to make sure you have a streamlined fit that works with your figure. They look great on women with flatter tummies, even if you have curvier hips. But in the right silhouettes and fabrics, it works on everyone. This denim trouser from custom jeans designer, 3x1, is spring perfection. The sit just at the belly button, and with a fluid leg, drapey light fabric (that feels more like heavy cotton trousers than hardcore denim) and trouser slant pockets, they have an amazing easier contemporary fit that looks great on petite and tall women, alike. The fit and details flatter curves, too. Wear these like you would a great pair of work trousers with a blouse, or like your favorite jeans with a simple tank. You’ll get tons of use out of them.

Ladies, Breaking Down Spring’s Top 5 Jeans Trends

It’s that time of year again. The seasons are changing and we start thinking about our closets and what needs a little refresh in there. We know many women often put off shopping for jeans. But look at this way, you may also have to shop for some swimwear for the season – this is going to be easier! And once you fall in love with a pair, you get to wear them to lots of places, not just the beach. Jeans are acceptable in many offices, and certainly have a huge place in dressing for a night out and any casual day. Having new jeans are an easy - and very necessary - way to keep your wardrobe looking appropriately updated. They will bring a modern look to a timeless blouse or tee.

With 70’s inspirations popping up everywhere for spring, denim becomes an even more important part of our wardrobes. It has been for years now, but this season, it takes on a very Americana feel. And denim is not just being relegated to our jeans. Sure, we’ve got great fresh new styles that we’re talking about below. But we’re also seeing denim take over in every possible silhouette head to toe…you name it, our denim friend is there. So, what do you need for the season to update your denim wardrobe & what is still going to work? Remember, we’re not about reinventing the wheel, just keeping our looks modern and updated. Let’s get into it.

5. Not Just Jeans. Playing up the whole Americana feel of the season, as we said, denim is not just in jeans. From dark denim to chambray (often blue, a fabric woven with white threads to create a lighter weight and color) skirts, shirts, dresses, jackets, and even shoes offer amazing options to work some of this trend into your outfit. Current/Elliott’s relaxed, contemporary shirt straddles the line between classic and modern effortlessly. The mini stripe and linen fabric create a beautiful denim-looking texture that looks easy and stylish with crisp white jeans, colorful shorts and skirts. Madewell has an oversized option that is perfect for those looking for a truly relaxed fit.

4. Distressing. A little or lot, there are a lot of options. We generally avoid the “a lot”. From jeans that are distressed for a lightly whiskered, clean finish to jeans that have some strategic light rips for a little more edge, distressing is especially important in springtime when dressing gets more relaxed. With denim brands using more advanced washing and abrasion techniques than ever before, there are a number of ways to update your jeans with this trend that aren’t over-the-top or too youthful. MOTHER’s version is one of our favorites, with just the right amount of shredding at the hips, back pockets, and just a bit at the knee. The fit is contemporary - along the lines of Joe’s Jeans, Citizens of Humanity, and Joie – with a mid-rise that sits just below the belly button. The lighter wash is flattering with whiskering at the hips that is very slimming. With a simple tee and sandals or a date night top and strappy heels, this is a great look for weekends or a night out. If you want to do this wash with a higher rise, 7 For All Mankind has a winning fit.

3. Slouchy. The idea of a boyfriend jean isn’t going anywhere – thank goodness. But it does get a little update. When they first came on the scene, they were long and loose throughout the leg and waist. We wore them cuffed and low on the hips. Now, they still have the same comfort but they’ve evolved to better suit a woman and feel less, well, sloppy. They really do flatter just about everyone, and work just as well with sneakers and a tee as they do with pumps and a blazer. The options range from a slimmer leg with a slouchy waist to cropped silhouettes that have wider legs. Eileen Fisher, known for their high quality and always relaxed fit is ideally suited to this latter fit. Also in a lighter wash, they have a neat womanly silhouette that is loose and easy, but not sloppy – great with heels or flats.

2. Flares. The other sure sign the ‘70’s are back - and one of our absolute favorites - is the resurgence of flared jeans. It started in the fall and it’s just getting better. It’s the perfect balance to the higher rises we just talked about, especially if you are curvier. In clean, minimally distressed washes, they look polished and sophisticated. Add heels, plaforms, or wedges and a tucked in blouse to complete the flattering and incredibly elongating look. You can get more casual by getting a pair in a broken-in wash and wearing them with a tee and flip flops. Either way, the key is getting the length right. Most local tailors can easily shorten your jeans “with the original hem” kept on. With heels, just the tip of your shoe should peek out from under your jeans. And with flats, your jeans should just skim the ground. We love doing a pair in white, like these Joe’s Jeans, since the flare is so slimming and balancing to the hip. And in Joe’s “spotless” collection, you can literally spill your wine and coffee on these and it will truly just wipe off. It’s amazing – and even more amazing is how soft and stretchy the fabric still is. 7 For All Mankind’s white trouser version is amodern alternative. They are both work ready in many offices, great with a blazer.

Can you direct me to the shoes that you have paired with the Eileen Fisher denim pants? They are tan with straps (heeled sandals)?
