Jersey Ski Pants
Vince
Sold by: Saks Fifth Avenue

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? These have been a staple in Vince’s line for several seasons for good reason – they’re awesome. Dress them up or down, the thick and stretchy ponte fabric is smoothing, while the waist detail and pockets step them up from basic leggings for more versatility in your tops.
Wear it with: As pictured, they look great with an open cardigan, like Nic + Zoe’s version that can be dressed up or down. Madewell’s knot front black top can be worn layered underneath or worn on its own, since the length and knot position are just perfect with the fitted leggings. Alternatively, Michael Stars cowlneck tunic has a side slit and pretty color offering that is ideal for any activity. You won’t go wrong with any footwear from heels to flats, knee high boots to loafers – the beauty of these leggings is how easily they dress up and down.
Fit Tip: Vince’s modern fit can run big, but these run true to size, fitted throughout and sitting just below the belly button for a fit that works on most every lady.
Alternatives: These come in charcoal grey, too, and unlike other grey leggings out there, they have the same thicker, ponte fabric as the black version so they certainly won’t be confused with gym wear.

Leggings: Making Your Secret Wardrobe Best Friend Work for You

Ladies generally have a strong opinion when it comes to leggings – we either can’t live without them or we think they are an affront to proper dressing. So where does Mark Shale stand on this important matter? YES. Let us explain. We see them as a staple in our wardrobes AND we think – we know – there are different kinds that work for different needs. That’s the key point to embracing them for all the comfort and practically they offer. With the popularity of leggings, they are now available in thin, simple shapes to versions that are more substantial, with some added details, to give them more of a pant-like feel. Both ends of this spectrum are important, and will take you from a casual day to even a day at work (yes, work!). We don’t recommend wearing those thinner versions as pants. They’re not meant for shorter tops and simply don’t have the coverage most ladies need for a flattering look. They are ideal though, as a layer under long sweaters and dresses. Weightier leggings are just as comfy and can work as pants, though we generally recommend tops that still cover your behind.

Here, we’re showing you our top Finds for every end-use. And then head over to our Fashion Finds, “Leggings: Looks for Casual Days, a Night Out, & Yes, Even Work”, to see how we incorporate 3 of them into outfits that you can wear for every aspect of your life – a casual day, a day at work, and a night out. If you like something, just click on the “Shop It” button to buy it from our suggested retailer. And let us know what you think through the comments section below and on social media.

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? Leather (or faux leather) leggings instantly rev up your powerful femininity for a night out. This version from Paige Denim truly has the look of real leather – you won’t find soft, real leather at this price. The back is made of thick stretchy ponte that holds the shape of the pants and keeps them so comfortable.
Wear it with: They have such nice structure, you can wear a shorter or longer top – whatever you feel comfortable in. They’ll instantly dress up a sweater like this longer one from Nic + Zoe, and they’ll even look great with this adorable denim shirtdress. While leather shoes work, black suede boots or booties of any height are a nice balance to the leather that won’t look too matchy. You can also go casual with a pair of cute sneakers.
Fit Tip: The wide elastic waistband slims and sucks in your belly, eliminating muffin top. They are a contemporary fit in XS-L, so go with your typical size.
Alternatives: Club Monaco’s faux leather version has a similar flattering waistband.

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? These James Jeans coated leggings seem to have a bit of a magical quality – the stretchy fabric hugs in your legs (not in an uncomfortable way) that results in a super sexy look. Not overly shiny, they have back pockets and faux front pockets, so they look like jeans, but pull on like typical leggings.
Wear it with: We’ve put together a night out look around these leggings in this week’s Fashion Finds, which offers a few ways to wear these.
Fit Tip: These are a contemporary fit, with great stretch. If you’re between sizes, you can size up and they shouldn’t be baggy at the knees.
Alternatives: For the same look, James Jeans offers this version, which are styled like jeans (with a zip and button closure) but super stretchy, like leggings.

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? These are Spanx’s Look At Me Leggings. And really, when you put them on, that’s how you’ll feel. Don’t confuse them with Spanx’s Essential Leggings (good luck trying to pull those up – the waist has very little give!) These are great when you want to feel like everything is in its proper place, which is why we recommend them as a perfect work layer. The material can get a touch of shine when you bend or pull, but overall they have a solid, matte, opaque black look and we don’t find them to be sheer.
Wear it with: These are great under a sweater dress – this one with a defined waist, this more relaxed fit in a pretty grey, or a neutral colorblock - they will all work for the office.
Fit Tip: The material really compresses, smoothing out and slimming your hips and thighs. And the wide waistband seriously flattens and smooths. Like the Commando tights we often recommend, it doesn’t dig at all, and comes at/just above the belly button so no muffin top or love handles. They’ll look small out of the box, but don’t be deterred. If you are between sizes, you can size up without a noticeable difference.

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? Rag & Bone’s skinny pants are the right way to wear leggings for work. They have a very polished look that can be worn year round, with their high quality thick ponte fabric and smooth lines. In a true, deep navy (shown) or black, you’ll get the stretchy comfort of leggings, but they have more structure so you’ll absolutely won’t feel sloppy and you’ll look very pulled together.
Wear it with: We’ve put together a work look around these in navy in this week's Fashion Finds and love how they look with a button down and sweater, too.
Fit Tip: This is a contemporary fit. If you are between sizes, you can size up and they shouldn’t be baggy thanks to the weighty fabric that holds it’s shape really well. The higher rise helps you avoid creating any lumpy bits, and the seamless back zip finishes the smooth line for an invisible finish under all your tops. Meant to hit just at your ankle bone, you can wear them with booties now and flats or open shoes once it gets warmer.
Alternatives: Rebecca Taylor’s stretch twill pants have a touch more of a dark denim look, with a contemporary fit that is a bit more relaxed than Rag & Bone’s, but with a similar high rise and stylish look.

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? These leggings are one of Nordstrom’s best sellers – check out the thousands of reviews through the ‘shop it’ button that agree with us. These are simple, not sheer, and substantial with very reasonable price tag. Sure, you can wear them to the gym, but they are certainly nice enough for a day of errands, too.
Wear it with: We’ve put together a casual look around these leggings in this week’s Fashion Finds. And any longer relaxed top, like this adorable denim tunic or this cowlneck will get you out the door in a snap.
Fit Tip: From XXS to XL, these work on most every body type. The wide waist band smooths and helps prevent muffin top and love handles.
Alternatives: Norma Kamali’s silky, thin version won’t bind anywhere and go over your foot, so the leg won’t ride up when you’re putting on your boots.

Fit Guide
Why is it a Find? Sanctuary’s take on leggings gives you a little more substance, both in material and style – and that makes them a great alternative to those basics. And they do a lot more for your figure, with faux front pockets and back pockets, too, they are a heartier stretch fabric so they help smooth and don’t get sheer.
Wear it with: Truly, anything. From a sweatshirt to a button down to a sweater (or both), these will work for casual days with sneakers or booties, and can be dressed up with heeled boots and a flowy tunic top.
Fit Tip: They’re leggings, so they are trim, but the line is generally a modern fit, so they don’t run small and are true to size.
Alternatives: AG’s version is a bit more substantial (still not as heavy as jeans, though) and comes in black or a blue knit that looks just like denim, and a whole lot stretchier.
